Altamonte Springs, Fla.— The Diamond Dawgs lost game one of a scheduled doubleheader to the Leesburg Lightning 2-1 in extra innings Saturday night. Game two was canceled due to weather.

Tyler Keysor (Eastern Florida State) started on the mound the first six innings striking out eight and only allowing one run.

In the top of the 1st inning, Leesburg scored a run on a balk making the score 1-0. The Diamond Dawgs tried fighting back, but couldn’t make it on base just yet.

The following inning catcher Luis Olivier (Embry-Riddle) hit a line drive out to left field that went uncaught. With this hit, Olivier sent in Gibson Krzeminski (West Virginia) making this the first run of the game for the Dawgs. The score now tied at 1-1.

There were many hits for the Dawgs the next few innings, but no runs scored. In the bottom of the fourth, Christian Maglich (Florida Southern) hit a single past third base. In the bottom of the fifth, both Cristian Rivera (Webber International) and Jordan Bowersox (Penn State) got a hit. John Radetsky (Oklahoma State), in the bottom of the sixth, hit out to center field making it on base.

It wasn’t until the top of the 9th that a run was scored for either team. Leesburg hit one out to deep left field sending in a run making the final score 2-1.

The Dawgs will play the River Rats Monday, June 19th at Sanford at 7 p.m.
