Dawgs Defeat River Rats At Home
Winter Park, Fla.—The Dawgs won a makeup game against the Sanford River Rats 5-2 Wednesday.
Pitcher Riley Troutt (West Virginia) started on the mound this evening pitching five innings and striking out eight River Rats. Eric Goldstein (Georgia Southern) came in later in the game and struck out three while earning the save.
The Dawgs started off strong at the plate in the first. Jacob Katzfey (Wichita State) hit a solo home run out to right field making the score 1-0 against the River Rats.
Sanford’s Elih Marrero (St. Thomas) hit a home run in the top of the 2nd tying the game 1-1.
Cristian Rivera (Webber International), in the bottom of the 2nd, hit a line drive to center field sending in Daniel Rodriguez (Reinhardt). Katzfey then stepped up and hit a two-run home run out to right field once again, sending in teammates Rivera and Jordan Bowersox (Penn State) making the score 5-1.
The Sanford River Rats didn’t score any more runs until the top of the 7th when Gunnar Lambert (Florida Atlantic) hit a home run making the final score 5-2.
The Diamond Dawgs, who now sit just 1.5 games back of first place, will play a doubleheader tomorrow June 29th against the Suns in Deland starting at 4 p.m.
