WINTER PARK, Fla.- Clutch pitching led the Dawgs to a 6-4 victory on Friday night over the Scorpions. Left start Jaylyn Whitehead (UCF) dazzled over four innings, striking out seven and only surrendering two hits.

Winter Park looked good early as they struck for four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-0 lead. Luis Cabrera (Southeastern) and Luke Reidy (Rollins) both had RBI singles. Cabrera later scored on an error and Coleson Hebble (Swarthmore) added a sacrifice fly.

The Dawgs kept their foot on the gas pedal in the third inning, as Hebble came across to score on a wild pitch to make it 5-0.

After the third, the Dawgs offense sputtered and was stymied by the Scorpions bullpen. After Whitehead’s stellar outing, Dawson Lane struggled in his relief appearance, giving up four runs in an inning of work to cut Winter Park’s lead to 6-4.

With the bats quiet, it took the combined effort of Tate Stone-Frisina (Rollins) and electric closer Brian Carruyo (St. Louis CC) to shut the door on Seminole County, 6-4. Carruyo make quick work of the Scorpions in the final inning striking out one and earning his eighth save of the season.

Winter Park advanced to 29-4 on the season and will look for the series sweep against the Scorpions on Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM at Sanford Memorial Stadium.
