We wrapped up the regular season on Saturday, and we had some guys finish really strong. Before telling you about the players of the week, we want to congratulate Rese Brown (Seminole State), Andrew Dunham (Florida Tech), and Zach Camp (Swathmore) on their combined NO HITTER for the Diamond Dawgs on Saturday, August 1st. What a remarkable way finish to finish the season!

We’d also like to congratulate Dylan Crews (River Rats) on winning the Player of the Week and to Parker Messick (Squeeze) on winning the Pitcher of the Week!

FCSL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - SANFORD RIVER RATS

OF DYLAN CREWS (LSU) .471/.500/.882 | 8H, 7R, 2HR, 1 DBL, 6RBI, 2BB, 1SB, 15TB

Crews easily had his best week of the season. The incoming freshman to LSU was 8-for-17 with a double and mashed two home runs. He was responsible for six RBI's and had a slugging percentage of .882 this week. After a tough start to the season offensively, Crews has heated up at the right time for the River Rats.

FCSL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - WINTER GARDEN SQUEEZE

LHP PARKER MESSICK (Florida State) 7.0IP, 0R, 1H, 13K, 0BB, .045BAA

Messick was completely dominant in his start against the Suns this week. He kept two of the most dangerous hitters (Joe Burke and Robery Chayka) off the base paths, limiting DeLand to just one baserunner - a bunt single in the third inning. Over the course of the game, Messick struck out nine different batters, thirteen overall, and kept the Squeeze in it long enough for his team to score in extra innings and win 1-0. This week, Messick pitched the most innings without allowing a run and tied for the most strikeouts on the week, which helped him record the second-lowest batting average against. He was also one of just four pitchers to not issue a walk in over three innings pitched.

DELAND SUNS

CF ROBERT CHAYKA (Kentucky Wesleyan) .429/.529/.500 | 6H, 5R, 1 DBL, 2BB, 1SB, 7TB

Chayka reached base in more than half of his at-bats on the week. His standout performance came in DeLand's victory over top-seeded Leesburg, when he reached base four times and scored three runs.

LEESBURG LIGHTNING

1B ALEJANDRO FIGUEREDO (Seminole State) .357/.313/.714 | 5H, 1HR, 2DBL, 8RBI, 10TB

Figueredo finished off the regular season with a BANG, launching a home run and a couple of doubles in some huge games for his team. The Lighting went 4-0 this week and struck down the other three top-4 teams in the league largely on the strength of his FCSL-leading 8 RBI this week. Leesburg earned the #1 seed and won the regular season largely due to his timely hitting and outrageous production down the final stretch.

SS ALEX FREELAND (UCF) .500/.706/.700 | 5H, 3R, 1TRIPLE, 5RBI, 7TB, 6BB

Freeland put together another outstanding set of games for the Storm this week, driving in key runs and finding ways to get on base to help his team score some key wins down the stretch. In an important victory against the Diamond Dawgs, he knocked in a pair of runs and walked twice to put his team in position to clinch a home playoff game their next time out against DeLand. In that game, he cleared the bases with a triple and proved that he and the Storm will be a force to be reckoned with in the postseason.

SANFORD MAVERICKS

OF ISAAC NUNEZ (USF) .500/.667/.625 | 4H, 2R, 1 DBL, 7SB, 5TB, 4BB

Nunez went 4-for-8 with a double this week at the plate. Although he didn't contribute any RBI's he got on base at a very high clip with four walks (.667 OBP) and was an absolute pest on the base paths with seven stolen bases.

SEMINOLE COUNTY LOGGERHEADS

3B RYAN FISCHER (Indiana) .500/.571/.833 | 3H, 1 TRIPLE, 4RBI, 5TB, 1BB

Zach was superb for the Lightning in the final week of the season, picking up wins against the Mavericks and Storm in the team's 4-0 week. He pitched masterfully in those contests, baffling hitters on his way to leading all Florida League arms in wins in that stretch. His mixture of pitches and methodical approach were key in helping his team clinch first place and home field advantage throughout the postseason.

Asghar put together his best performace of the season at the right time to help the Storm lock up a home game in the first round of the playoffs. His four innings of shutout ball set the tone in Leesburg's game against the Dawgs, where they picked up a much needed win down the stretch against a strong offensive unit.
