Another sluggish offensive day was coupled by 11 walks from the pitching staff as the Seminole County Snappers fell in the season opener to the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs by a score of 9-3 in Sanford on Thursday.

William Quinones (Florida Tech) started the offense by recording his first hit of the season, a solo shot into left center to tie the game at one. That was the only run until the eighth inning, when Evan Orzech (St. Xavier) knocked in two more with a single.

Andrew Washington (Seminole State) improved from his first start, striking out three but still walking five. Andrew Spolyar (Seminole State) did not allow a run over two innings in his season debut. Billy Duby (Diablo Valley) also added three strikeouts in his two innings of work.

For the Dawgs, Matthew Malatesta (South Carolina Beaufort) was virtually untouchable, going seven strong innings, striking out 10 on just two hits. They totaled nine hits as an offense, with the biggest one being a solo home run from Wooyeoul Shin (Miami Dade).

The Snappers have dropped five straight, falling to 1-8 on the season. They will look to rewrite the script tomorrow when they travel to Bishop Moore to take on the Diamond Dawgs in game two of the weekend series.
