SANFORD, Fla – Mother nature was not a fan of the Sanford River Rats, as the team opened the second half of their season with a 1-0 rain shortened loss against the Seminole County Snappers.

Friday’s contest was supposed to be the first game of a double header, meaning that if the home team had a lead, only 3.5 innings needed to be completed for the game to be official.

Pitching through some light rain, Demetrius Vizcarra (Pasco Hernando) made a throwing error on a come backer by Tucker Talbot (Florida) which allowed Ryan Coleman to score the game’s only run in the bottom of the third. Before Vizcarra could throw another pitch, the Central Florida skies opened up, flooded the infield, sent everyone home, and ended the double header after three and a half innings of play.

The Rats have not played a complete game since June 28th against the Leesburg Lightning as the weather has caused the FCSL’s leading team to see their season come to a grinding halt, while their 18 games played are tied for the fewest in the league. Despite the inclement weather, Sanford still leads the league in wins with 11.

The team is back in action on Saturday, with the start time likely to be changed following today’s rainout. Check out team social media accounts for updates regarding this weekend’s schedule.
