Florida League Alumni Roundup - Power Five

LONGWOOD, Fla.- The 2022 spring season has been a fruitful one for alumni of the Florida League, as players from across the country have been among the best across divisions. Over the next week, the Florida League office will spotlight just a few of the dozens of players who are major contributors for their college teams. Part one looks at players from Power Five schools. 

Reese Albert, Florida State (2020 Scorpions)- One of the 2020 Scorpions' trio of standout outfielders, Albert is the leading hitter for the No. 20 Seminoles. The outfielder is currently hitting .357, logging 30 hits with nine doubles. The redshirt senior had a hit in seven consecutive at-bats in mid-Feburary, and has not made an error in the outfield this season.

Josh Allen, Duke (2020 Suns)- Allen has continued to blossom as a pitcher for the Blue Devils, as the sophomore has posted a 3.26 earned run average in 19.1 innings of work. In that time, Allen has allowed just seven walks and has struck out 33 hitters. He earned his second career save early in the season against Appalachian State, and is currently riding a streak of ten scoreless innings dating back to March 15.

Ben Blackwell, Clemson (2020 Scorpions)- After his graduate transfer to Clemson, Blackwell has made an immediate impact in the ACC. The infielder has reached base in more than 50 percent of his plate appearances, with his .508 on base percentage ranking fourth in the ACC. Blackwell is hitting a career-best .376, driving in 21 runs and scoring 24 for the Tigers.

Dylan Crews, LSU (2020-21 Rats)- The two-year River Rat and reigning National Freshman of the Year has remained one of the top players in the nation in his second year on campus. Crews' run production has gone up from 2021, as the Lake Mary native has 33 RBIs in 29 games. He is hitting .342 with seven home runs, is ranked second in the SEC with 34 runs scored, and has an SEC-best four triples.

Cade Doughty, LSU (2021 Dawgs)- A member of Winter Park's 2021 team that came within one win of the Florida League title, Doughty has continued to elevate his game in his third season in Baton Rouge. The Louisiana native has the best average of his career at .365, and is on pace for career highs in home runs and RBIs. Doughty's 14 doubles are currently the top total in the SEC.

Jud Fabian, Florida (2020 Scorpions)- In his fourth season at Florida, Fabian is currently one of the hottest players in the nation. : During the month of March, Fabian led the SEC in total bases (54), slug- ging (.857), walks (22) and home runs (10). His 13 home runs on the season ranks second in the nation, as well as first in the SEC. Fabian reached base in 17 straight games at one point this season, and has driven in multiple runs 12 times.

Bryce Hubbart, Florida State (2020 Squeeze)- Hubbart is one of the leaders of what D1Baseball.com calls "college baseball's best pitching staff." The sophomore, who has struck out 57 hitters with a 2.43 ERA in more than 40 innings of work, was named the NCBWA Pitcher of the Month for February. He won ACC Pitcher of the Week in the first weekend of the season, and is the first Seminole to win his first four starts since 2018.

Brayden Jobert, LSU (2020 Rats)- In his first season at LSU, Jobert has emerged as the top run producer for the No. 19 Tigers. The 2020 River Rat has belted ten home runs, and is currently second in the SEC and in the top 20 in the nation with 38 runs batted in. He had a monster weekend against Florida, hitting three home runs and driving in nine runs in two appearances, both blowouts wins, in Gainesville.

Parker Messick, Florida State (2020 Squeeze)- The 2020 Florida League Pitcher of the Year could be the most dominant starter in college baseball. Messick currently leads Division I baseball in strikeouts with 76, and has a 2.35 earned run average in his 46 innings on the mound. He is a two-time ACC Pitcher of the Week, as well as a Perfect Game National Pitcher of the Week. 

Grayson Moore, Vanderbilt (2020 Rats)- Moore, who was the Most Valuable Player of the 2020 Florida League Championship Series, has posted a breakout season in the bullpen for the No. 16 Commodores. Moore is tied for third on the roster with seven bullpen appearances, and has struck out 19 hitters in his 14 innings of work. He has allowed just three earned runs in that time, good for a 1.93 earned run average.

Tommy Seidl, Alabama (2020 Lightning)- Seidl hadn't played college baseball since March 2020, but has been making up for lost time in his first season as a graduate transfer in Tuscaloosa. A member of Leesburg's 2020 Lightning team, Seidl leads UA in average (.333), and on-base percentage (.419) while tying for the team lead in multi-hit games (10), hits (35), and runs scored (23).

Sterlin Thompson, Florida (2020 Scorpions, 2021 Dawgs)- Thompson's second year in Gainesville has been a breakout one for the outfielder, who was a First Team All-Florida League selection last summer. Thompson is one of the Gators leading hitters with a .348 batting average, which includes ten multi-hit games. He is currently riding a ten-game hit streak, his second streak of ten or more games this season. He has belted seven home runs, and has driven in 23.
