2022 Florida League Schedule Released
LONGWOOD, Fla.- The 2022 Florida League season is now less than a month away, and preparations are in full swing for the 19th season of college summer baseball in central Florida. This season, a number of new locations will see Florida League baseball, as the league office is pleased to announce the 2022 schedule. To follow are some of the major points to note from the 2022 schedule:
Home, sweet home: Finally, Winter Garden has their Squeeze back. After playing the 2019 season in Minneola and the 2020 and 2021 seasons as a travelling team, the Winter Garden Squeeze will finally return home to West Orange High School.
Sperling Suns: With multi-million dollar renovations slated for Conrad Park, the DeLand Suns will move across town. The Suns will play at the Sperling Sports Complex on the northwest side of town. Sperling is no stranger to the Florida League, hosting games during the 2020 season and hosting the Division II DeLand Hammers in 2021.
Hitting the road: One of the most baseball-crazy areas of the state will see Florida League action in 2022. The Suns will host three consecutive nights of play in The Villages. The Suns will host Sanford, Winter Park, and Leesburg from June 14 to June 16 on the campus of The Villages Charter High School.
Additionally, here are some of the major dates to watch on the Florida League calendar:
June 2- Leesburg at Sanford
Sanford Memorial Stadium, Pre-game tailgate with Live Music 5pm, First Pitch 7 pm
The Florida League tradition continues, as the defending champions begin the season in Sanford against the River Rats. This season, the honors go to the Leesburg Lightning, as a rematch of the 2020 Florida League Championship Series gets the 2022 season going. Opening Night festivities are sponsored by Yuengling and The West End Trading Company and will feature a pre-game tailgate with live music beginning at 5pm. Stay tuned for more information!
June 3 - Winter Garden at Seminole County
Sanford Memorial Stadium, 6:30 pm
After the River Rats open Sanford Memorial on Thursday, the Snappers play their home opener the next night. This matchup will see Matt Swiderski coaching his first Florida League game against former Snappers head coach Mike McDaniel.
June 3 - Sanford at Leesburg
Pat Thomas Stadium, 7 pm
We run it back from Opening Night, as the defending champion Lightning take the field for the first time in front of the Florida League's most rabid fans. Expect a celebration of the 2021 champions, although the 2020 champions will be on hand to try and spoil the party.
June 3 - DeLand at Winter Park
Lake Highland Prep, 7 pm
A rematch of the first two Florida League Championship Series, the Suns and Dawgs meet up for Winter Park's home opener in their new ballpark in Orlando.
June 4 - Winter Park at DeLand
Sperling Sports Complex, 7 pm
The location shifts to the Sperling Sports Complex the next night for game two of the series. Sperling is expected to be much friendlier to hitters than the cavernous Melching Field; will this be seen on the first two nights of the season
June 5 - Leesburg at Winter Garden
West Orange High, 7 pm
At long last, Florida League baseball is back in Winter Garden. The Squeeze re-christen West Orange High with a visit from the defending champions.
June 27-28 - Prospect Showcase
Worthington Field, Lynchburg, Virginia
The Prospect Showcase returns in full force in 2022, and the site shifts to Worthington Field on the campus of Liberty University in Virginia. Some of the top professional prospects in the Florida League will head north to compete against players from other summer collegiate leagues around the nation.
July 4 - Sanford at Leesburg
Pat Thomas Stadium, 5 pm
"The Pat" on the fourth of July is a sight to behold. Capacity-plus crowds are often seen in Leesburg, as the Lightning and Rats battle before the city of Leesburg's extravagant Independence Day fireworks spectacular. This is a must-see for baseball fans in central Florida.
July 12 - Florida League All-Star Game
Sanford Memorial Stadium, 7 pm
After a one-year stay in DeLand, the Florida League's midsummer classic returns to its traditional home in Sanford. A prospect workout and the Home Run Derby will proceed the event, with first pitch between the East and the West set for 7pm.
July 24-27 - Florida League Playoffs
The 2022 postseason starts as the number four seed hosts the number five seed in a Play-In Game. The winner advances to the FCSL Semifinals to face the regular season pennant winner, while the second and third seeds battle in the other semifinal.
July 29-31 - Florida League Championship Series
Will it be two in a row for Leesburg? Will Winter Park, DeLand, or Sanford rise back to the top? Or will Winter Garden or Seminole County deliver their first ever championship? We find out in the final three days of July.
