Head Coach: Josh Montero

Coach Montero enters his 4th season as Head Coach and 7th Season with River Rats as a whole playing at Sanford Memorial Stadium. While coming off a league best 18-10 season in the 2021 campaign, Montero is looking forward this season to claiming his 2nd championship title as a head coach and 3rd overall with the River Rats and be the first head coach to win two or more championships in River Rats history.

Montero led the River Rats to the League Championship back in the summer of 2020 along with winning Coach of the Year the same season. He is a hitting coach when he is not at Sanford Stadium and is most looking forward to coaching a very powerful and fast River Rats team this summer. He is currently the longest tenured coach in franchise history as well. 

He played both college baseball and football at SUNY Brockport and says that with his time as a college athlete taught him what it takes to win and help showcase the next generation of MLB players. He is a father of three and has been called one of the best baseball recruiters by his peers within the Florida League.

Assistant Coach: Shane Letterio

Coach Letterio is in his 4th season with the River Rats as an assistant under Montero. He has been alongside Coach Montero since his head coaching tenure began. Coach Letterio says that the last two years were a little bit challenging from a coaching standpoint due to the pandemic but the is looking forward to another winning record with the River Rats organization.

Letterio is a veteran of the game of baseball with 9 years of pro-ball under his belt with time spent in the Milb with Billings and Williamsport to name a few. Letterio is also a 2nd-Degree black belt in taekwondo and at one point was ranked third in the world in taekwondo.

General Manager: Abby Berghane

Abby is a rising junior at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. She is currently majoring in sports administration and creative and entertainment industries. Her dream is to work in either sports branding or sports marketing preferably in the MLB or NHL one day.

General Manager: Brady Johnson-Schmeltzer

Brady is a graduate of UCF in Orlando, Florida. He graduated with a finance undergraduate degree then went back to school for an MBA and a master’s degree in sports business management. He recently graduated in December of 2021. His dream is to pursue a career as a business intelligence analyst.
