Dawgs Come Back Against Seminole County
WINTER PARK, Fla.- The Winter Park Diamond Dawgs defeated the Seminole County Snappers Wednesday night, 4-2 at Lake Highland Prep. The Dawgs remain undefeated against the Snappers, winning all three games between the two teams.
Jacob Burr (Webber) continued to be spectacular on the mound for Winter Park, keeping them in the game into the sixth inning. He went five and a third innings, allowing no earned runs, while striking out four. He finished with a no-decision.
“I knew I did not have my best stuff; I just kept pounding the zone and let them put it in play,” Burr said.
The Dawgs scored first in the fourth with a Dale Thomas (Coastal Carolina) RBI single. The Snappers came back in the sixth, taking advantage of three Winter Park errors. Jacob Stretch (Frostburg State) was called upon once again in the sixth, stranding the runner at third.
“Walks kill, and I just wanted to attack the zone and do my job,” Stretch said.
Thomas once again came through big in the sixth for Winter Park. He sent a two-out two-run home run to take a 3-2 lead.
“I was thinking just be early, trying to go up the middle,” Thomas said. “I knew I was getting something soft, and he gave me a changeup. The entire lineup has been outstanding, this is probably the best summer ball team I have played with.”
Stretch worked himself out of an eighth inning jam with runners at the corners and only one out. He struck out the last two hitters of the inning holding the 3-2 lead.
Blake DeLamalure (Jacksonville) added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single.
Stretch stranded the tying run at the plate in the ninth with back-to-back strikeouts. He finished the game with six and earned the win.
Winter Park will now play a three-game set against the Sanford River Rats. They are the only team to win multiple games against Winter Park this year. Game one is Thursday 4 p.m. at Sanford Memorial Stadium.
