Squeeze bats die down from good pitching vs Snappers
Winter Garden, Fl- The Winter Garden Squeeze and Orlando Snappers started a 3 game series on Thursday morning at Olympia High school. The Squeeze bats came into this one hot, looking to continue that streak but was unable to do so. On the mound for the Snappers was Jacob Burr (Webber International), Burr who is the ace of the Snapper staff lived up to the hype in the 7-0 shutout win for the Snappers.
Burr went 8 innings, gave up 5 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Burr collected his first win on the year receiving the loss on opening night in Sanford. Recieiving the loss for the Squeeze was Jordan Hussey (Arkansas), Huskey went 5 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits, along with 3 walks and 7 strikeouts. The run came in the first inning when Michael Ballard (Louisiana Tech) hit one of his three hits on the day good enough to bring in the first run of the game in Jessy De La Cruz (New Orleans)
This game was a 1 run game for most of it, it looked to be a pitchers dual until the 8th inning. In the top of the 8th, with Rolando Riza (Texas A&M International) on the bump, the Snappers would grab 2 insurance runs thanks to a double hit by Adonis Forte II (Rockhurst) to bring in Dawson Mock. The very next batter, Ballard collected another single along with a RBI brining in Forte II in for the score. Riza's final stat line was 3 innings,2 hits, 2 earned runs, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts.
The Snappers poured it on some more in the top half of the 9th inning with Fisher Sheffield (Keystone) on the mound. Sheffield went just the 9th inning, giving up 2 hits with 4 earned runs, along with 2 walks. The runs came on a Gauge McCorkel (Florida Southwestern) double that would bring around Tyler McKenna (New Orleans) to score. Diego Garcia (Rollins) scored when De La Cruz drew a bases loaded walk, Forte II finished off the scoring on a 2 RBI brining in McCorkel and Pat McDonald (Cal st San Marcos).
The Squeeze and the Snappers will be back at it tomorrow night in a technical home game for the Squeeze but it will be played at the home of the Snappers, Lake Highland Prep, at 7 PM.
