Nine run 3rd just too much for the Suns to overcome

DeLand, Fla. - An offensive showing was on display from the Orlando Snappers (7-9), beating DeLand (9-7) 12-3 in seven innings, as they had a season-high 16 hits on the night.

Zane Wright (Polk State) got the start as he was looking to build off his impressive outing against Leesburg, where he went five innings and zero earned runs. The Snappers would get the best of him as he was knocked out of the game after 2.2 innings, giving up six runs and nine hits altogether. The Snappers were not done as they continued stretching the lead to 11-0 before the Suns came to bat in the third inning. Every hitter in the Snappers lineup would reach base safely, a testament to how patient and locked-in the hitters were tonight.

The Suns' bats were held in check for most of the night, as they only had four hits in seven innings of work, coming from Foster Apple (Stetson), Aris Rivera (UCF), Gavin Thomas (Davidson), and Anthony Gonzalez (Stetson). The only extra-base hit came from Gavin Thomas in the 3rd, which drove in two runs for their biggest offensive inning. The defense also wasn't up to par, as they committed three errors, including one in the nine-run 3rd.

Head coach Cameron Jergens expressed to his team that come tomorrow will be another opportunity to see how his team faces adversity, "This is the first time we've gotten our butts kicked all season, and I told the guys that tomorrow will be another test, and it's all about how we respond after this."

Up next: The Suns will look to even this series against the Orlando Snappers at Lake Highland Prep on Friday, June 21st. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
