Suns Fall to Squeeze in Second Game of Series
DeLand, FL- The DeLand Suns fell to the Winter Garden Squeeze by the score of 7-4 in the second of a three-game series between the two teams. In a game where the Suns out-hit its opponent seven to three, the Squeeze jumped ahead when it scored five runs in the top of the second and then proceeded to hold onto the lead all game.
The Suns would first get on the board in the bottom of the fourth after a triple hit by Eli Tidwell (undecided) set up Cade Centracchio of Stetson to send him home with a sacrifice fly. The Squeeze would increase the deficit back to five with a run in the next inning.
The Suns made it a game in the bottom of the sixth when Gavin Thomas of Davidson College hit a three-run homer run, his first homer of the season, to cut the deficit to two. The team would threaten one final time in the bottom of the ninth when Connor O’Sullivan (undecided) hit an RBI single and the team put the tying run on base, but the Squeeze would manage to escape with the win.
The Suns used five pitchers in the game. The most notable performance came from Paul Janeczko (undecided) who finished off the game for the team. He pitched in the final three innings, during which he only allowed a single hit and no runs while also striking out five batters. Another notable pitching moment came from Bryce Roth (undecided) when he struck out the side in the top of the sixth.
The Suns and Squeeze will finish their series on Sunday, June 7, when they face off once again at Melching Field at Conrad Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
