ODonnell leads Alliston over Fergus, 9-3
The Alliston Hornets' Mark ODonnell had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing three assists in his team's 9-3 win over the Fergus Devils.
ODonnell got on the board by slotting home a power play goal 2:59 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Alliston. Alliston had gained a power play chance when Mikael Ruffini was whistled for interference. Matt Taylor picked up the assist. ODonnell dished an assist on Nic Archibald's goal that made the score 4-1 Alliston at 7:25 into the second period. He then added assists on Connor Annett's goal at 15:26 into the second and on Tanner Dockerty's goal at 50 seconds into the third.The win gave the Hornets a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.
Fergus' 10 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Devils let up five goals while on the penalty kill.
The defensemen of Alliston were also effective in Fergus' zone, and came away with two goals.
Alliston additionally got points from Jamie Bennett, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Dockerty, who also had one goal and one assist, Taylor, who also registered two goals and one assist, and Archibald, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Alliston also had goals scored by Nick Arcan and Matt Hamilton, who scored one goal each. In addition, Alliston received assists from Jacob Tuck, who had three, Mitch Livingston and Brendan Spencer, who contributed one each, and Steve Griggs and Payton Dunlop, who each chipped in two.
The Devils were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of 10 man advantages.
Fergus was helped by James Murray, who tallied one goal. Murray scored on the power play 15:18 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Devils had taken the advantage when the Hornets' Zack Byblow got sent off for boarding. Griffin Heitshu assisted on the tally. Fergus also got points from Heitshu, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Reese DeBrouwer also scored for Fergus. More assists for Fergus came via Mike Traves, Paolo Chemello, and Ryan Lavrench, who contributed one each.
Tyler Brindle rejected 18 shots on goal for Alliston. The Hornets incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Alex Elliott made 20 saves for Fergus on 29 shots. The Devils incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
