At the time of the SPHL trade deadline, the FireAntz and head coach Jeff Bes have made a move, sending Chase Nieuwendyk to the Evansville Thunderbolts in exchange for defenseman Brandon Lubin. The acquisition will now give Fayetteville a full core of six defenseman, as Nieuwendyk had been shifted from a forward role due to a few injuries and call ups.

After missing a good chunk of games due to injury, Nieuwendyk had rebounded valiently, scoring a total of 9 points in 25 games with the FireAntz. His replacement, Brandon Lubin, will make the FireAntz the third SPHL team he has played for this season after spending time with Pensacola and Evansville. The 25 year old from Commerce, Michigan has a total of 11 points in 36 SPHL games this year.
