Cascades Win First Series of Season
Day two of the 2018 season was close to perfect for the Cascades, however a rough patch kept them from an opening weekend sweep.
In game one, Thompson Rivers University got out to a hot start putting them up 4-0 after the top of the first. The Cascades were held down for a few innings, but in their third time through the order against Wolfpack starter Regan Gillis, UFV exploded for seven runs by way of six hits to take a 9-4 lead they would not give up, winning the game 10-4. Starting pitcher Parker Logan got his first win for the Cascades throwing six innings, settling down after a rocky start to shutdown the Wolfpack.
In game two, Cascade starter Jake Gill had a day to forget, surrendering eight runs without getting a single out. Freshman Riley Ens came in out of the pen to save the day, throwing seven innings of two run ball, leading the Cascades on a furious comeback. However, the eight run handicap was too deep of a hole for UFV to climb out of, dropping the game 10-8.
Overall, the Cascades took the opening series three games to one, and look on to four home games next weekend against the University of Calgary Dinos (0-4).
