Gananoque takes care of Campbellford early, wins 10-2

The Gananoque Islanders jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Campbellford Rebels, 10-2.

 

Gananoque got the win thanks to a great game by Ryosuke Kabayashi, who had two goals and two assists. Kabayashi scored the first of his two goals at 13:51 into the second period to make the score 7-1 Gananoque. Sam MacDonald provided the assist. Kabayashi's next tally made the score 8-2 Gananoque with 40 seconds left in the second period. Hunter Drew assisted on the tally.

The Islanders' penalty kill excelled, as Gananoque gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

The Islanders stifled Campbellford's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Gananoque forced the Rebels goalie Fregonas Eric to work between the pipes, taking 68 shots. The Islanders surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Gananoque averages 4.0 goals per contest. The Islanders got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game. Gananoque could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Gananoque additionally got points from Drew, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Matt Carter, who also racked up one goal and three assists. Others who scored for Gananoque included Brenden Lochead, who had two and Duncan McNaughton, Nic Stafford, Chris Boushy, and Phil Smith, who scored one goal each. More assists for Gananoque came via Geoff Clemison, who had two and Craig Cross, Drew Marquette, Mike Minns, Brody Cross, and Connor Smith, who contributed one each.

Campbellford's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Gananoque power plays.

The Rebels were led by Jeremiah Doherty, who tallied one goal and one assist. Doherty scored 19:26 into the first period to make the score 5-1 Gananoque. Brenan Rylott provided the assist. Riley McGuire also scored for Campbellford. In addition, Campbellford received assists from Jacob Trotter, who had one.

MacDonald rejected 26 shots on goal for the Islanders. Fregonas Eric made 58 saves for Campbellford on 68 shots. The Rebels ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Campbellford ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Perry Ethan was ejected from the game.
