FAIRBANKS — When the going gets tough, the Alaska Goldpanners get going.
All summer long, the Goldpanners have showcased a knack for digging deep and overcoming adversity.
Alaska was forced to do it again Saturday when it met the Burnaby Bulldogs, of Burnaby, British Columbia, in the quarterfinals of the Grand Forks International Baseball Tournament at James Donaldson Stadium in Grand Forks, British Columbia.
However, with Nick Ames leading the way — the first baseman from the University of Nevada Las Vegas finished 4 for 5 with six RBIs and a three-run home run — Alaska came back to earn a 10-5 victory over the Bulldogs.
With the win, the sixth-seeded Goldpanners (16-4 overall) advance to the tournament semifinals. They’ll face the North Sound Emeralds, of Edmonds, Washington, at 7:30 a.m. today.
