Rally Falls Short Again, Fall 7-6
The comeback for the Joes falls just short, falling to the Mariners 7-6. Tonight’s ballgame was starting to look eerily reminiscent of last nights, with the Joes letting it slip away late vs the Mariners, but they make it close in the end. It was back and forth all night but Grand Lake was able to take game 1 of 2.
Drew Saunier pitched well through 5, but struggled in the 6th inning. His final line on the night, 5.2 innings pitched allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks. He did have good stuff as he struck 9 batters.
The Joes had 2 homeruns, both of them were solo shots, the first by Ryan Thompson and the second by Daulton Miller. Millers tied up the game at 3 in the 7th, but the Mariners put up 4 runs against Josh Gainer in the 8th to take a 7-3 lead.
Trying to claw back the Joes scored in the bottom of the 8th to cut the deficit to 7-6 as Brennan Gick hit a base clearing double to deep left field, but they were unable to plate the tying run.
Game 2 will be tomorrow vs the Mariners, 7:05 @ Foundation Field.
