Numbers to know from Hamilton's 7-2 win

Hamilton (9-6) traveled to Florence, Kentucky, on Tuesday to face off against the Steam for the fourth time this season. The Joes defeated Cincinnati (8-7) once again, this time to the tune of 7-2. This win helped Hamilton solidify its current ranking in the South Division, as the Joes now have outright ownership of second place.

Here are the numbers to know from Hamilton’s 7-2 win:

2

Known hitter Sammy Sass showed his prowess at the plate against the Steam. Sass knocked a solo home run over the left field wall for his first as a Joe and for Hamilton’s second of the season. Hamilton now has the second-least number of home runs of any Great Lakes team, but was tied for the least before Sass’s.

Two was also the number of Joes who collected two RBIs. Both Garrett Staton and Sass had two RBIs against Cincinnati. This marked back-to-back games where Staton has helped two cross the plate.

4

Six different Joes had hits on Tuesday and four of them were able to double-dip. Harry Jackson, John San Jule, Sass and Staton each collected two hits against the Steam. This number is important as Hamilton continues a steady offensive climb as of late.

6

Sebastian Gongora was once again effective in relief for Hamilton. He struck out the most batters of any pitcher that night, Cincinnati included. Six is a season-high for Gongora, doubling his previous high of three.

27

Chase Hopewell threw his second start of the season Tuesday. He allowed three hits and struck out five of the 23 batters he faced. Hopewell allowed a season-high five walks to the Steam. This is due in part to Hopewell having more innings and facing more batters than he was in a relief role.

The Joes will remain on the road Wednesday, taking on the Jazz at McBride Stadium in Richmond, Indiana. Hamilton is set to return home on Thursday, June 24 for a double header against the Scouts.
