Numbers to know from the Joes' 5-4 loss
By Ashley Beach
The Joes (9-7) traveled to Richmond, Indiana, on Wednesday to face the Jazz (9-8) for the fourth time this season. The visitors fought hard through a twelve-inning game but had to etch another tally in the loss column at the end of the day.
Here are the numbers to know from Hamilton’s 5-4 loss:

Sam Matthews performed well in his role of reliever against the Jazz. Matthews struck out five of the nine batters he faced over two innings. He entered the game in the eighth when the game was tied and did all he could to keep runners off the basepaths. Matthews’ appearance may have been short, but he was a solid setup man for Dearinger in the tenth, keeping the game tied at 3-3.

Wednesday’s game was the fourth time that Hamilton went into extra innings this season. The Joes have a 1-3 record when it comes to going past the standard nine, and their only win came against the Marlins on June 8. It appeared that the Joes would move to 2-2 after John San Jule scored in the top of the twelfth but Richmond had other ideas. The Jazz plated two runs to claim the victory for themselves.
8
Eight of the Joes had one or more hits against the Jazz. One of the most notable hits of the night was Logan Castleman’s home run to break his streak of six hitless games. Spreading the offensive wealth has become more common for the Joes as the season continues to progress and this new development has come in handy on more than one occasion thus far.
34
Casey Grimm threw a personal season-high nine strikeouts during his start but also gave up a personal season-high six hits to the Jazz. Grimm also allowed three earned runs, another personal season-high. This was Grimm’s fourth appearance this season and although the numbers may seem disconcerting, he was productive nonetheless as the offense backed him.
The Joes return home to Foundation Field on June 24 to take on the Scouts in a doubleheader. Game one is a continuation of the suspended June 18 match-up and will start at 5:05. The regularly scheduled game for the night will follow.
