Numbers to know from the Joes' 13-11 loss

The Joes took the trip to Florence, Kentucky, knowing that first place in the South Division was on the line. Cincinnati knew this too, and the familiar foes went toe-to-toe until the final out. The Steam came out victorious in the end, securing a 13-11 and first place, while the Joes fell to third.

Here are the numbers to know from Hamilton’s 13-11 loss:

.400

Harry Jackson has repeatedly proved himself at the plate and Sunday was no different. Jackson hit a three-RBI triple with the bases loaded to give Hamilton a temporary lead. He simply knows how to put the bat on the ball and that reflects in his batting average. Jackson has been a consistent .400 hitter for the Joes thus far. His .400 batting average leads the team and is the third-highest in the GLSCL.

Garrett Staton had an impressive night against the Steam. He had four hits and three RBIs in five at-bats. Staton’s offensive surge came at an appropriate time for the Joes as he was able to fill holes during Sunday’s back-and-forth affair. Staton is now batting .327 on the season and leads the Joes in RBIs with 11 total.

11

Bryce Smith gave up a season-high 11 hits to the Steam. Smith is a known contact pitcher and historically has created routine plays for his defense. However, Cincinnati capitalized on this method and found the gaps in the field for base hits. Smith stayed on the mound for five and a third innings before being replaced by the losing pitcher, Adam Dearinger.

Hamilton kept the Steam on a tight leash during its last two match-ups. The Joes had only allowed four runs to Cincinnati in the past three times they saw each other. However, the Steam found a way to break through and scored the most runs they have on Hamilton all season Sunday night.

The Joes will have a rest day on Monday before they return to Jazz McBride Stadium on Tuesday. They last saw the Jazz on June 23 and were defeated 5-4 in extra innings. The first pitch of the battle for second place is set for 6:05 p.m.
