Numbers to know from Hamilton's 3-0 win

Hamilton's Sebastian Gongora and Ohio's Daniel Brenneman found themselves entangled in a pitching duel on Tuesday evening. The two traded pitches for seven scoreless frames, but in the end, it was Gongora and the Joes who came out on top with a 3-0 victory.

Here are the numbers to know from Hamilton’s 3-0 win:

0.5

The Joes (20-12) are a half-game back from the Jazz, who are now in first place. Richmond snuck in through the back to strip the crown from Hamilton last week. However, the Joes have played one less game than the Jazz at this point, meaning that Hamilton maintains the possibility of reclaiming the top spot after defeating the Marlins (7-23).

Gongora and Chase Hopewell put zeros on the board for nine straight innings for Hamilton’s second shutout of the season. The clean game rested on the back of Gongora’s best long-distance outing of the season. The southpaw allowed two hits and struck out 12 through seven innings. The Joes’ first shut-out was against the Steam on June 10.

5

Matt Detering has had a hit in the last five games he has played in. He had an offensive rebirth in July and his bat continues to heat up. Detering’s three hits were the most by any Joes batter on Tuesday and marked his sixth game this season with two or more hits.

Hamilton ruined the Marlins’ chances at a shutout in the top of the seventh inning. Detering scored the first run on a wild pitch and then Luke Arnold scored the second after John San Jule reached safely on an error by the Ohio second baseman. John San Jule would later claim another RBI in the top of the ninth to end the pitching duel.

The Joes will hit the road again on July 14. Hamilton is set to take its talents to Don Edwards Park for a doubleheader against the Bison. The first game will begin at 5:05 p.m. and the second game will follow.
