Joes Defeat Steam to Close out Week 3
By Luke West Poley
Both sides for the Joes continued to produce Wednesday in a 5-2 win over the rival Cincinnati Steam. In a fast-moving game not lacking in action, Joes’ home runs 2 and 3 at Foundation Field were hit in the victory.
The Joes got going in the bottom of the 3rd, as Casey Finck led the inning off with a double, eventually scoring on an RBI groundout from Grant Miller to make the lead 1-0. In the 4th, Bennett Clement would be caught stealing, however on the same batter Parker Lester would belt a homerun over the right field wall, his first of the season.
In the 6th, the teams would trade blows. Cincinnati would tie the game, pushing across 2 runs in the top of the inning. The Joes would respond right away, however, as Parker Lester knocked in an RBI single, and was followed up by an Evan Ulrich homerun. With Ulrich’s 3rd homerun of the season, the Joes’ catcher from University of Charleston now leads the team. After conceding the lead, the Joes would retake it 5-2 after 6.
Zach Breeden would enter the game for the Joes in the 7th, pitching the final 3 innings and slamming the door for a 5-2 victory. Breeden would earn the save, while starter Josh Laisure would record the win. With the victory, Hamilton extended their lead on the GLSCL South Division to 2.5 games, heading into an off day before hitting the road for the weekend. The Joes will be back in action Friday as they head to Grady’s Field to take on the Xenia Scouts. The next home game for the Joes will be on Monday, July 4th against the Richmond Jazz.
