CINCINNATI – On Thursday night the Hamilton Joes broke their losing streak in run-rule fashion, defeating the Cincinnati Steam 13-3 in eight innings. This pushes the Joes to 19-16 on the season and drops the Steam to 15-20.
The Joes got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Cameron Bryant hit a line drive single that scored Max Johnson.
Jacob Flaherty got the start on the hill for the Joes in the bottom of the first. The Steam were able to tie the game up 1-1 on a single, but Flaherty got the Joes out of a bases-loaded jam to avoid giving the Steam a lead.
In the top of the second the Joes took the lead back when a single from Johnson scored Carter Rust. They extended it when Gabe Board drew a bases loaded walk that scored Griff Cady and a single from Bryant scored Johnson and Grant Miller. A single from Liam McFadden-Ackman pushed the lead further when Board scored. A second walk with the bases loaded, this time Rust, scored Bryant. A fielder’s choice also scored McFadden-Ackman and Stephen Stigler to put the Joes up 9-1.
A solo home run from the Steam in the bottom of the third made a small dent in the deficit to put the score at 9-2.
The Steam got another back in the bottom of the fourth on a sac fly to make it a 9-3 game.
In the bottom of the fifth Gavin Faulkner went to the bump. He got the Joes out of a bases loaded jam without allowing any runs to cross.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh Jared Teke went to work on the mound. With one pitch he ended the inning.
In the top of the eighth Christopher Hoffmann hit a 2 RBI single that scored Board and Bryant. Rust followed that up with a single of his own that scored McFadden-Ackman. Hoffmann then came home on a single from Griff Cady to push the score to 13-3.
In the bottom of the eighth the Joes held off the Steam to take the 13-3 run-rule victory.
