Donadio Voted 2014 HCBL MVP
Mike Donadio (St. John’s) was the anchor in the Riverhead lineup all season long, and his standout summer has resulted in him earning the 2014 Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League Most Valuable Player.
Donadio led league in hitting (.378), and finished in the top five in hits (2nd; 48), OBP (2nd, .460), RBI (4th; 25) and runs (5th; 27).
Donadio was named on all seven managers’ ballots, gaining two first-place votes, four seconds and a third. He edged Southampton’s Mitchell McGeein (Eastern Michigan), who finished second despite having more first-place votes. The Breakers’ Marquise Gill (Eastern Michigan), who led the league in stolen bases, finished third, followed by North Fork’s Casey Baker (Stony Brook) and another Breaker, Rob Moore (St. Peter’s), the runner-up to Donadio in batting average.
Donadio joined Riverhead after a standout freshman season at St. John’s. He batted .328 with five homers and 45 RBI en route to earning Big East Rookie of the Year and Freshman All-America honors. This summer, Donadio was also named to the victorious North All-Star team, going 1 for 2 with a walk and two runs scored.
