6/10 Recap: Bucks/Breakers Finish Deadlocked In 9-9 Tie

Shelter Island 9, Southampton 9 (10 Innings)

The Shelter Island Bucks and Southampton Breakers battled to a 9-9 ten inning tie at Stony Brook Southampton.

The Breakers took an early 5-0 lead in the first inning, but Shelter Island behind two-run hits from Jacob Stracner (McNesse State) and Brian Goulard (Fordham) in the third got within a run.

The Bucks took the lead in the top of the fifth. Robert Fulkerson (Southern New Hampshire) come up to the plate with the bases loaded and one out, hitting a grand slam home run that propelled the Bucks to an 8-5 lead.

The Bucks added another run in the seventh on a solo shot by Stracner.

The Breakers would comeback in the seventh, chipping away at the lead to get within a run. The score would be tied when Jacob Talamante (St. Mary’s (CA) walked with the bases loaded.

Both teams failed to score in the tenth despite having runners in scoring position to end the day in a tie.

Southampton’s Jalen Atterbury (Savannah State) finished the day 2 for 3 with 3 RBI. Stracner finished the day with three RBI and three runs scored for Shelter Island.

 

 

Westhampton 14, North Fork 5

The Westhampton Aviators won their second straight game at Aviator Field with a 14-5 victory over the North Fork Ospreys.

The Ospreys took a lead in the first inning on a single by Matt Dipasupil (James Madison).

Westhampton responded with three runs in the bottom of the first inning highlighted by two run home run by Nick Bottari (Hofstra).

The Ospreys would retake the lead in the fourth inning on two-out hits from Stephen Hansen (Iona) and John Mead (Wagner). Dutra added another RBI to tie the game at four during the bottom of the third inning.

Bottari hit another two-run home run in the fifth to give Westhampton a lead they would not relinquish.

The Aviators would add two more runs in the sixth inning and five runs in the seventh inning to pull away from the Ospreys.

Grant Young (San Francisco) earned a win for the Aviators after pitching 4.1 innings of scoreless relief.

With his five RBI game, Bottari tied an Aviator record for most RBI in a game held by three others.

 

 

Long Island 6, Sag Harbor 4

The Long Island Road Warriors overcame a three-run deficit to claim their fourth win of the summer at William Floyd High School on Saturday.

In the second inning, the Road Warriors took the lead on an error.

The Whalers responded with a four-run inning. Robert Young III (Fort Wayne), Cole Coker (Lamar) and Michael Calamari (Dartmouth) each had RBI hits, and a fourth Sag Harbor run was scored on an error.

Long Island tied the game at four in the fourth inning on a three-run home run by Lukas Olsson (SUNY Oswego).

The Road Warriors would take the lead for good in the seventh inning following an RBI single by Michael Veit (Fairleigh Dickinson) and a sacrifice fly by Jordan Folgers (Siena).

Garrett Pike (Oklahoma City) earned the win for the Road Warriors after pitching five scoreless innings of relief.
