Borowitz Brings the Heat in Westhampton
Chase Borowitz (Le Moyne) showed the stuff that made him National Pitcher of the Week by Collegiate Summer Baseball earlier this season as his Sag Harbor Whalers took a 3-0 victory over Westhampton.
The native of South Salem, New York had his best outing for the Whalers going 5.2 innings only allowing two hits. Borowitz had ten strikeouts while walking just two Aviator batters.
Sag Harbor jumped to a 3-0 lead after the first two innings on home runs by Justin Lebek (Davidson) and Bryan Rubin (Vassar).
The Whalers would add insurance runs scoring in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings. Austin Phillips (Marist) and Ryan Votypka (SUNY New Paltz) preserved the shutout as Sag Harbor got their third road victory of the season.
Rubin finished the day a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate for Sag Harbor. Lebek’s home run in the first inning was his seventh of the season tying the Sag Harbor single season franchise record shared by ’12 Whaler Charlie Curl (Texas A&M) and ’10 Whaler Kevin Grove (St. John’s).
Borowitz improved his record with the win to 3-3 on the season. Borowitz now has 38 total strikeouts for the year in 40.2 innings pitched.
