Westhampton 11, Shelter Island 1 (7.5 Innings)

The Westhampton Aviators won their 22nd game of the season over the Shelter Island Bucks by a final score of 11-1 on Saturday at Fiske Field.

Brian Weissert (Fordham) pitched a complete game one-hitter for the Aviators in the win. Weissert had five strikeouts and four walks as he picked up his third win of the 2017 season.

Griffin Hulecki (Ball State) started the scoring with a three-run homer in the top of the first to put the Aviators ahead 3-0.

Brian Goulard (Fordham) would respond for the Bucks with a solo home run to cut the score to 3-1. It would be the only hit that Weissert would give up on the day.

The Aviators would get a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Nick Bottari (Southeastern).

In the seventh inning, Westhampton would have the bases loaded when AJ Montoya (Toledo) hit a grand slam to make the score 8-1 in favor of the Aviators.

Westhampton would put the game away in the eighth scoring three runs to force the mercy rule ending the game.

Bottari finished the afternoon going 2 for 3 with 3 RBI. Matt Hansen (Toledo) had three of the 12 hits Westhampton had in the game.

Southampton 4, Long Island 2

The Southampton Breakers picked up an upset road win over the second-place Long Island Road Warriors at St. John The Baptist High School in West Islip on Saturday.

Joey Poricelli (Merrimack) gave Southampton a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on an RBI single to center field.

Long Island would respond in the bottom of the inning on back-to-back RBI singles from Marc Wangenstein (Albany) and Nico Doria (Fordham).

The Breakers tied the score in the fourth on a John LaRocca (Monmouth) RBI double that scored Ben Rowdon (Stetson). Southampton would take the lead in the fifth on a wild pitch that scored Poricelli from third base.

The Breakers would get an insurance run in the ninth on an RBI single off the bat of Ryan McPhail (St. Edwards)

Skyler Pichardo (Marist) retired Long Island in the ninth to get his first save off the season. Evan Tubbs (St. Edwards) pitched 3.1 innings of relief as he got his fourth win for the Breakers.
