Bottari, Weber Named Weekly Award Winners
As the race for the HCBL postseason heats up as we head towards the end of the Regular Season, Westhampton’s Nick Bottari (Southeastern) and Long Island’s Ray Weber (Albany) were recognized by the HCBL coaches for their performances in Week 7.
As the Rawlings Player of the Week, Bottari hit .565 in Week 7 as his Aviator team secured the #1 seed in the playoffs. Bottari went 3 for 5 in the Aviators 10-8 ten-inning victory over the Long Island Road Warriors on July 18th. The native of Wading River had a pair of home runs with 4 RBI in the game. Bottari scored six runs and drove in 13 RBI for Westhampton during the week. Bottari currently is tied for the league lead in home runs and leads the HCBL in batting average at .462.
For the third consecutive week, the Ace Hardware Pitcher of the Week went to a member of the Long Island Road Warriors. Weber pitched a complete game three-hit shutout over the Shelter Island Bucks in the first game of a doubleheader at the St. Joseph’s College Athletic Complex in Patchogue on July 16th. Weber had five strikeouts and just two walks in the game as Long Island beat the Bucks by a final score of 8-0. Weber’s joins teammates Shane McDonald (Fordham) and Matthew Paghidas (SUNY Maritime) as the third straight Road Warrior to take the award. Weber’s Road Warrior squad clinched the #2 seed on Sunday with a win over Westhampton.
