The final week of the 2019 regular season saw two players recognized for their efforts on the field as their teams made postseason pushes.

 

Daniel Franchi (Binghamton) was named the New Era Cap Player of the Week for the second time this season while Sag Harbor’s John LaPointe (Wagner) was selected as the Ace Hardware Pitcher of the Week.

 

Franchi hit .636 for the Aviators in the regular season’s final week. The Binghamton Bearcat went 7 for 11 on the week with six RBI and two doubles. Franchi went a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate on July 20th against North Fork and July 21st against Southampton.

 

In his final start of the regular season, LaPointe pitched a complete game three-hit shutout on the Riverhead Tomcats in the first game of a doubleheader on July 20th. The Staten Island native struck out five Riverhead batters and did not allow a walk.

 

The HCBL weekly awards are voted on each weekend by the league’s seven head coaches and are announced each Tuesday.
