Sag Harbor 9, South Shore 3

It was a happy 19th birthday for Whalers pitcher Brett Borcherding (Rose-Hulman) as the East Hampton resident picked up his second win of the week for Sag Harbor in their 9-3 win on Sunday over the South Shore Clippers.

Borcherding went seven innings for the Whalers allowing two runs on six hits with a pair of strikeouts without allowing a walk.

The Whalers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a two-run home run from Sean Springer (Cincinnati) and a pair of RBI singles by DJ Perron (UMass Dartmouth) and Marika Lyszczyk (Rivier).

Both teams would trade a run in the second inning putting the score at 5-1 Whalers after two innings. In the bottom of the fourth, Garrett Scavelli (Molloy) hit an RBI single to put the Whalers up 6-1.

South Shore would get their second run of the game in the top of the sixth inning from a two-out RBI single from Tj Werner (Fairleigh Dickinson). Sag Harbor would score three runs in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice fly from Lyszczyk and a two-run double from Springer.

The Clippers would get a run in the eighth inning on a wild pitch but they could not overcome the deficit as Eli Larson (Richmond) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to give Sag Harbor the victory at home.

Scavelli finished the day a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate while Springer had 4 RBI in the game.

North Fork 4, Southampton 1

The North Fork Ospreys picked up a 4-1 victory over the Southampton Breakers in front of the home crowd at Cochran Park in Peconic on Sunday night.

Southampton would score first on a solo shot from first basemen Lance Kruse (Southwestern) in the top of the second inning.

North Fork would tie the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Peter Marren (Georgetown).

The Ospreys took the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Mason Kelly (Bucknell) drove in Marren to score on an RBI single to right field to take a 2-1 lead.

North Fork would increase the lead in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run home run by Steven Luttazi (UMass Amherst) that gave the Ospreys a 4-1 lead going into the top of the ninth.

The Ospreys would hold Southampton scoreless in the top of the ninth with Christopher Vivenzio (Pace) coming in with a man and two out and getting the final out to give North Fork the win.

Paxton Meyers (Brown) got his first win of the season for North Fork going six innings allowing a run on three hits with eight strikeouts and four walks.

North Fork at 3-8-1 is only three points behind South Shore (5-7) for the fifth and final playoff spot in the HCBL. Southampton at 7-5 is currently tied with Westhampton at 7-4 with first place with 14 points each.
