Breakers’ Marquez Wins HR Derby Fan Vote

The 2021 HCBL Home Run Derby fan poll ended on Thursday at the stroke of midnight and over 700 votes were cast. In the end Southampton’s Mason Marquez (UC Santa Barbara) became the 7th participant in the event with 35% of the vote.

 

Marquez who currently leads the HCBL in home runs with five and is tied for the league lead in RBI with his Breaker teammate Tyler Robinson (Dartmouth) at 23 will take part in event scheduled to take place at Cochran Park in Peconic at 3 PM on Saturday before the 2021 HCBL All-Star Game at 5 PM.

Mason Marquez (Southampton/Abilene Christian) - 35%

Alex Ungar (South Shore/Albany) - 22%

Brian Morrell (Riverhead/St. John’s) - 12%

Greg Budig (Westhampton/Western Michigan) - 12%

Andrew Nole (North Fork/Lehigh) - 11%

Charlie Adamson (Sag Harbor) - 8%

 

Below is the order of participants in the derby

Lance Kruse - Southampton/Southwestern

Steven Luttazi - North Fork/UMass

Chad Pike - South Shore/Suffolk CC

Sean Springer - Sag Harbor/Cincinnati

Tommy Verga - Westhampton/Fairleigh Dickinson

Mason Marquez - Southampton/Abilene Christian

 

The HR Derby format for 2021 will be two rounds with six outs per round.

 

Players will bat in alphabetical order by last name in the first round; Fan vote player will hit last.

 

In the case of a tie, tiebreaker rounds will be two outs.

 

Qualifying round: Top 3 advance to the final round

Final: Most home runs wins
