Danny Gargano (Queens) led the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League in saves and was the South Shore Clippers top man out of the bullpen. For his outstanding work in relief, Gargano was named the 2022 HCBL Reliever of the Year.
Gargano won a narrow vote taking the award over Jacob Young (Brown) of the Southampton Breakers by a single point. Gargano got three first place votes, a second and a third place vote while Young had two first place votes, a second and three third place votes.
Gargano had four saves in eight appearances in relief for South Shore with a 2.07 ERA in 17.1 innings pitched. Gargano was selected as an HCBL All-Star for the Gold Team All-Stars on July 6th.
The Middle Island native is the third player in South Shore history to be named as HCBL Reliever of the Year. Back when the franchise was known as the Long Island Road Warriors, Shane McDonald (Southern New Hampshire) won the award back in 2017 while Matthew Paghidas (SUNY Maritime) made it two in a row in the 2018 season.
