North Fork Gets Comeback Win over Westhampton to Remain Undefeated at Home

The North Fork Ospreys continued their undefeated record as the home team in the 2023 season overcoming a six-run hole to beat the Westhampton Aviators by a final score of 11-9 on Friday night at Cochran Park.
Westhampton took a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Jack Halloran (Emory) brought in the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly that scored Ethan Guerra (Paris JC). Tyler Smith (Saint Peter’s) came up to bat with the bases loaded and hit a double that cleared the bases making the score 4-0.
After a walk to Luke Mistone (Cal St. Fullerton), Nathan Estrada (Hope International) hit a two-run triple to put Westhampton up 6-0.
North Fork would get on the board scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Lukas Egenhauser (Le Moyne) got the Ospreys’ first run on an RBI groundout. Ty Acker (George Washington) followed with an RBI triple and then would come on to score on a balk for the third run of the inning.
North Fork would load the bases to start the bottom of the sixth with a single and two walks for Jack Filippi (St. John Fisher) who worked a walk to cut the score to 6-4. Egenhauser would single in a run to get within a run, and then Acker drove in two runs on a single to put North Fork ahead.
The Ospreys would score two more runs on a sacrifice fly by Christian Fagnant (Amherst), and an RBI single from Ulysess Luciano (St. Michael’s) to lead 9-6.
North Fork would get two additional runs in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run single by Brady Karp (Bucknell) with two out to lead 11-6.
Westhampton would not go away quietly as they scored three runs in the top of the eighth on an RBI single from Smith, and a two-run home run off the bat of Mistone to cut the Ospreys lead to 11-9.
Brady Malpass (Azusa Pacific) came back out for his fourth inning of work for the Ospreys and preserve the lead. Westhampton would get the tying run to the plate with two out. Malpass would get Halloran to strike out swinging to give the Ospreys their sixth win of the season at home.
Acker highlighted the Ospreys offense on the box score batting 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored.
North Fork is back at home on Saturday against the Shelter Island Bucks while the Aviators return home to meet the South Shore Clippers at Aviator Field.
