South Shore 5, Southampton 4

The South Shore Clippers (12-11-1, 25 Points) moved into second place in the HCBL standings with a 5-4 win over the Sag Harbor Whalers (12-10, 24 Points) on Tuesday at Bellport High School.

South Shore took advantage of a five-run third inning where Matthew Tempone (UMass Dartmouth), Jack Quinlan (Army), Aedan Forde (New Haven), and Joe Hackal (St. Joseph’s-LI) all had RBI for the Clippers in the inning.

The Whalers would get two runs in the top of the fourth on a double from Keano Suarez (Central Florida) to cut the score to 5-2.

Sag Harbor would score another two runs in the sixth on an RBI single from Alex Brinkman (Keystone) and a sacrifice fly from former Clipper TJ Werner (Fairleigh Dickinson) to get within a run of South Shore.

Dante Morabito (St. Joseph’s-LI) would come out of the pen for South Shore and hold the Whalers scoreless the rest of the way to preserve the lead for South Shore as he went the last three innings without allowing a hit to get the save.

South Shore starting pitcher Kyle Salvati (Franklin Pierce) went four innings allowing two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and four walks. Theo Brennan (George Washington) pitched two innings and earned the win for the Clippers.

Southampton 10, Shelter Island 0 (7 Innings)

The Southampton Breakers beat the Shelter Island Bucks in seven innings by a final score of 10-0 on Tuesday at Southampton High School.

JJ Romatzick (Hartford) was 4-for-5 for the Breakers while Kenneth Franquiz (New Haven) led the Breakers in RBI with three for the game. Franquiz’s teammate at New Haven, Cole Maucere was 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored.

John Kwiatkowski (Manhattan) pitched five shutout innings for Southampton as he improved his record on the season to 3-1. Kwiatkowski also lowered his ERA for the season to 1.14 in 15.2 innings for the Breakers.

Westhampton 5, North Fork 5 (10 Innings)

The Westhampton Aviators and North Fork Ospreys played to a 5-5 tie in ten innings at Cochran Park in Peconic on Tuesday night.

Westhampton got out of the gate early scoring four runs in the top of the first. Ethan Guerra (Paris JC) led off the game with a solo home run followed by Nathan Estrada (Hope International), Zachary Leiderman (Skidmore), and Greg Becil (Lehigh) bringing in runs on RBI singles.

North Fork would cut the lead in the bottom of the second as Jackson Militello (Eastern Michigan) hit a two-run home run as the score was 4-2 Westhampton after two innings.

Westhampton would score a run in the top of the third on the result of an RBI fielder’s choice from Guerra. In the bottom of the inning, a bases loaded hit-by-pitch to Jack Filippi (St. John Fisher) and a Luke Barrientos (Vassar) sacrifice fly got the Ospreys within a run. However, North Fork would leave the bases loaded before they could take the lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Filippi would lead off the inning and hit a solo home run tying the game at 5-5. North Fork in the bottom of the eighth had the bases loaded with two out with Barrientos at the plate. Barrientos would ground out to first base ending the North Fork rally.

Both teams would fail to score in the ninth and tenth innings ending the game in a 5-5 tie.
