6/18 Recap: Kienzle’s Two HR’s Power North Fork

North Fork 11, South Shore 3

 

The North Fork Ospreys beat the South Shore Clippers at Cochran Park on Tuesday Night in front of their home crowd with an 11-3 win.

 

Steven Kienzle (Southern New Hampshire) picked up the first of his two home runs in the bottom of the second with a two-run shot that broke a scoreless tie. Nicholas Lorenzo (Richmond) would add another run for North Fork in the second with an RBI single.

 

Kienzle would come up again in the bottom of the fifth following a double steal which scored an Osprey run and smash his second home run of the game making it 5-0 North Fork.

 

It was enough run support for North Fork starting pitcher Sebastian Velasquez (Rhode Island) who went six innings allowing a run on three hits with six strikeouts and three walks getting the win.

 

Aidan O’Keefe (Richmond) went 3-for-5 for the Ospreys increasing his batting average on the season to .571. The second year Osprey has eight hits in 14 at-bats this season.


 

Shelter Island 8, Southampton 1

 

The Shelter Island Bucks remain undefeated at 4-0 on the season with an 8-1 win in their home opener at Fiske Field against the Southampton Breakers.

 

The Breakers took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first getting a run on a wild pitch that scored Michael Vilardi (Queens).

 

The score would remain 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth. Julian Abreu (Marist) led off the inning with a triple and would score on a sacrifice fly from Ryan Leclair (Stonehill) tying the score.

 

Shelter Island took the lead in the sixth when Josh Endo (Southwestern) hit an RBI single to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Bucks.

 

The Bucks put the game away in the late innings scoring three runs in the seventh and eighth innings to take the game 8-1.

 

Colin Carver (Colby) in his season debut for the Bucks went six innings allowing an unearned run on three hits to get the win for Shelter Island.


 

Westhampton 8, Sag Harbor 5

 

The game between the Westhampton Aviators and the Sag Harbor Whalers on Tuesday at Mashashimuet Park in Sag Harbor ended with an 8-5 victory for the Aviators.

Sag Harbor took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when a Westhampton error allowed a run to score. However, the Aviators quickly tied the game in the top of the second when Zev Moore (MIT) scored on a passed ball.

In the top of the third inning, Westhampton took the lead with a two-run home run by Johnny Tarantino (Santa Clara), making the score 3-1. Tarantino continued his impressive performance with an RBI groundout in the top of the fifth inning, extending the Aviators' lead to 4-1.

Both teams added a run in the seventh inning. Westhampton's Thomas Gould (Santa Clara) hit a sacrifice fly, while Sag Harbor scored on a passed ball, making it 5-2.

Jakob Chavez (Paradise Valley CC) added to Westhampton's lead with a two-run home run in the top of the eighth, pushing the score to 7-2. The Whalers responded with an RBI fielder’s choice from Ethan Righter (Hamilton) in the bottom of the eighth, narrowing the gap to 7-3.

Chavez continued his strong performance with his third RBI of the game in the top of the ninth, making it 8-3 in favor of the Aviators. In a dramatic bottom of the ninth, a Westhampton error with the bases loaded and two outs resulted in two runs scoring, bringing the tying run to the plate. However, Everett Garber (Bucknell), in his second inning of relief, got Frank Kula (Rhode Island) to fly out to right field, securing the 8-5 win for Westhampton.

Max Brunngraber (Ponoma-Pitzer), the starting pitcher for Westhampton, had an impressive outing, going six innings and allowing only one run on five hits, earning his second win of the season.
