Ospreys Take Sole Posession of First Place With 4-3 Win Over Bucks
The North Fork Ospreys moved into first place by themselves in the HCBL standings with a 4-3 win over the Shelter Island Bucks on Monday Night at Cochran Park.
North Fork starting pitcher Sebastian Velasquez (Rhode Island) went 6.2 innings for the Ospreys with five strikeouts and three walks getting his second win of the season.
The Ospreys took an early lead getting three runs in the bottom of the first on an error and sacrifice flies from Rocco Cimino (Pace) and Anthony Equale (Washington (MO).
The Bucks would score two runs in the top of the second on a two-run single by Briggs Loveland (Emerson) and an error on the play would get him to third base. However, the Bucks could not capitalize on the opportunity leaving Loveland at third.
North Fork would add another run in the bottom of the second on an RBI infield single from Leighton Helfrick (UC Davis).
The Bucks would get the score back to within a run on a solo home run in the top of the fourth from AJ Cook (Elms).
In the top of the seventh, Shelter Island has two men on base with two out as the Ospreys called on Johan Franco (Georgetown) to get the final out.
Franco would catch Ryan Leclair (Stonehill) on a 2-2 pitch to end the game and give North Fork first place.
North Fork is back in action Tuesday night at home against the Sag Harbor Whalers at 7:00 PM. Shelter Island’s next game is a home-and-home doubleheader with the Westhampton Aviators at Fiske Field on Wednesday with a 2:00 PM start.
