Dogs Drop First Of The Season
The Halton Hills Bulldogs couldn't recover from a slow start on Wednesday night, dropping their first game of the season 11-9 in OT to the West Durham Ironheads. The Dogs now sit at 3-1-0 on the season with a pair of home games coming up this weekend.
Falling behind 4-1, the Dogs rallied in the second period and began chipping away at the deficit. Three power play goals early in the frame, tied the game 5-5. The Ironheads scored twice before the end of the period to lead 7-5 after 40 minutes.
The Dogs outscored the home side 4-2 over the final 20 minutes to force overtime, Johnny Vezina's second of the game tied the score 9-9. The Ironheads scored the game winning goal shorthanded and added an empty netter to seal the two-goal extra time win.
Blake Jensen was credited with making 61 saves on the night as the Dogs were outshot 72-43 by the Ironheads. These two teams will face each other again on Saturday, May 20 at Alcott Arena in Georgetown.
Next up for the Dogs is a pair of home games this weekend. Saturday night, the Dogs host the Nepean Knights (0-4-0) at 7pm on Halton Hills Minor Lacrosse Family Fun Night. On Sunday afternoon, Moms get in free! It's a Mother's Day matinee at 2pm as the Dogs host recent playoff rival, the Gloucester Griffins in what should be a highly entertaining game!
The Dogs defence will be bolstered this weekend with the return of captain Theo Dol to the lineup. Returning on Wednesday was defender Tyler Biles who had missed the first three games of the season as he was busy winning the Sutherland Cup with the Elmira Sugar Kings.
