Huntsville rips Midland, 7-1
The Huntsville Otters were firing on all cylinders against the Midland Flyers, and when the final buzzer sounded Otters emerged with a 7-1 win.
Jake McIntyre was all over the ice for Huntsville, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. McIntyre scored the first of his two goals at 7:56 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Huntsville. Myles York assisted on the tally. McIntyre's next tally made the score 6-0 Huntsville with 13:41 left in the third period. York picked up the assist.
The Otters were led by goalie Connor Christanson, who finished with 26 saves while allowing one goal. Christanson certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.26 entering the contest.
Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:33 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.
Huntsville forced Midland's goalies to work in net, launching 53 shots and forcing 46 saves. Jake Norton made eight stops and Matt Camilleri made 38. The Otters stifled the Flyers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Huntsville found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Otters average 4.5 goals per game.
Huntsville additionally got points from York, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Huntsville also had goals scored by Walker Davison, who had two and Josh Zantingh and Chris Goodfellow, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Riley Vogels, who had two, Tanner Hamilton, who had three, and Myles Bissonette, Jesse Houlton, Sam King, Corey Miller, and Brendan Fitter, who each chipped in one.
Midland racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. The Flyers had been averaging 27.0 minutes in penalties per game. Midland's offense operated below its season average. The Flyers put an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game.
Huntsville totaled 45 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. The Otters ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Zantingh was ejected from the game. Midland registered zero goals on seven power play opportunities. Team's Jon Goldsworthy and Jason Stone were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
