South Daytona, FL- The Bulls traveled to South Daytona on Friday, February 10th for their weekend matchup against Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. USF started off the weekend with a difficult game and a loss of 2-5 over the Eagles.
During the first six minutes of the period, both teams were finding their pace while playing cat and mouse with the puck. USF was getting more shots on net, but the Eagles were able to strike first. USF’s #27 Andrew Ward was called for cross-checking, and ERAU capitalized on their man advantage for a rebound goal. After some more back and forth action, the Eagles were called for holding with just under five minutes of play. Winning the faceoff was #28 Jonathan Cooper, passing it to #18 Alden Spratt, and getting the puck up to #22 Tyler Stowe to make the score 1-2.
With the intensity of the game rising, ERAU was stopping at nothing to get as many shots on net as possible with #33 Sean Jenal making diving saves to keep the score close. The Eagles’ effort finally paid off and they were able to tap the puck in after a scramble adding another to the board. #6 Cameron King was called for interference, and Embry-Riddle got a goal off a rebound shot. Looking to cut their lead in half with a penalty from ERAU, the Bulls played a little game of tic-tac-toe from #25 Danila Mikheev to #20 Andrew Miranda and sending it down the middle of the lane to #6 Cameron King and tucking it away to make the score 2-4.
Nearing the end of the second period, ERAU was called for a major penalty, giving the Bulls the man advantage. With just under two minutes of play left, the Eagles added one more to the board ending the period 2-5.
Not able to capitalize on their power play at the beginning of the third, the game went back to both teams fighting for time in their offensive zones. Going to four-on-four hockey for a bit and then Embry-Riddle taking another penalty for some four-on-three hockey, the Bulls were still struggling to get another puck in the net. The time ticked down ending the game with the score remaining 2-5. USF’s #33 Sean Jenal stopped 23 of 28 shots against the Eagles.
Wesley Chapel, FL- Looking to split the weekend, the Bulls’ fans packed the stands and cheered on USF hoping to win their last home game of the season on Senior Night.
Starting off the period on the wrong foot, USF gave up a goal under two minutes in. A tripping penalty from #13 Kelly Barlett gave ERAU another chance on a power play and made the score 0-2. With the Bulls struggling to keep up, the Eagles were able to jab one through the legs of #29 Tyler Leniek bringing the score to 0-3. Just under six minutes of play left in the first, Embry- Riddle walked the puck up the lane and slipped it through the five-hole of #29 Leniek. After the Eagle’s fourth goal, there was a change in net switching from #29 Tyler Leniek to #31 Ansel Triebe-Pay.
The second period was a battle for the Bulls. Keeping up with the Eagles and finding a chance for a breakaway, #4 Keith Moss got the puck from the boards, passed it up to #22 Tyler Stowe for #18 Alden Spratt to fake out ERAU’s goalie. Getting some momentum, #27 Andrew Ward dangled past Embry-Riddle players and sniped the puck from a sharp angle making the score 2-4. A few seconds later, the Eagles walked another one in bringing it to 2-5.
The first quarter of the period was just fighting for the puck. With the Eagles being called for tripping, the Bulls were able to get another chance to put one on the board. Bringing the puck up the ice for the Bulls was #27 Andrew Ward and sent it around the boards up to #20 Andrew Miranda. Sending it over to #25 Danila Mikheev and back to #20 Miranda, he sent a wrister straight to the back of the net. With both teams keeping each other from getting another goal, the time expired and the score remained 3-5. USF’s #29 Tyler Leniek stopped 5 of 9 shots and #31 Ansel Triebe-Pay stopped 13 of 14 shots.

Wilcoxon Municipal Ice Complex in Huntsville, AL from Friday, February 23rd through Sunday, February 26th for the College Hockey South Championship Playoffs.
