Former I-Heads Standout Joins West Durham Staff
The West Durham Ironheads Jr.B Lacrosse club are pleased to announce the addition of former I-Heads standout Brock Levick to the coaching staff for the 2018 season.
"It feels good to be back with the I-Heads," said Levick. "It's definitely going to be different being on the bench, but I am looking forward to the new challenge. It was a big year for this young and talented team last season, so I believe I can add experience to this club. Having played five years of junior and making the playoffs all five years, I can relate to the players and share my knowledge to add to their success."
Head Coach and General Manager Ron Reed was pleased to hear that Levick was interested in coaching and believed he'd be a perfect fit for the Ironheads staff.
"I have always considered the Ironheads coaching staff as a team," said Reed. "So when I was looking for someone to step in and help us out as a coach I was also looking for the right fit to compliment the coaches already in place. Brock was an ultimate team player when he played for the Ironheads. He was a terrific offensive player, who was easy to coach and eager to learn. Not only was he a leader on the floor he was also a great player in the dressing room. Players and coaches respected him and listened when he spoke. So for me, this was an easy decision."
The Newmarket,ON native sits fourth in All-Time Ironheads regular season goals with 62 while his 127 points in 38 games is good enough for eigth in franchise history. Levick's best junior season was back in 2011, where he recorded 33 goals, 38 assists for 71 points in 20 games with the I-Heads. He also spent parts of his junior career with the Newmarket Saints and Green Gaels where he tallied 210 points in 67 games.
Levick was also prolific scorer in the NCAA Division III ranks at Medaille College, netting 294 points over four seasons with the Mavericks. Levick led DIII in goals in three of his four seasons at Medaille and averaged 4.00 goals per game in his collegiate career. He also won the Medaille Mavericks Male Athlete of the Year in 2013.
"Brock brings with him a lot of credibility and knowledge," said Reed. He was a terrific offensive player who knows players have to be willing to go to the tough areas to make things work. He will be good at reading players strengths and weaknesses and help them improve in both areas. Having committed coaches with a consistent message from the start of the season will help make the offence better. But coaches teach and players are the ones that need to bring consistency."
The Medaille College grad went on to finish his lacrosse career with the Rochester Knighthawks(NLL), Niagara Lock Monsters(CLax), Brampton Excelsiors(MSL), Brooklin Redmen (MSL) and Brooklin Merchants (Sr.B).
