I-Heads Slow Down Excelsiors
Written by: Conrad Schneider
The Ironheads were on the second night of a back to back in Brampton verses the Excelsiors after a 12-8 win in Orillia just the night before. Like the Southern Ontario windstorm, the I-Heads blew through anything in its path in the first two games.
Saturday night's game followed suit and some familiar faces were on the board again. After nine goals through his first two games, Taggart Clark added another two. A night after having two goals and three assists, Mike Berger repeated his statline with an extra assist. And after collecting four assists in his first two games, Kurtis Rauch was a force Saturday night as he scored two goals, added an assist, and set the physical tone to this game with hard nosed play and countless hits.
Rookie goalie Liam Wright got the start in net after being pulled early in his season debut the night before and bounced back big time. Although he benefitted from some solid offensive production, the Whitby,ON native made some timely saves when the team needed him most. Wright turned away 30 of 38 shots for the win and the West Durham season has started with three straight wins before a busy week.
The Ironheads clash with another undefeated foe, the Oakville Buzz(5-0) on Wednesday night at Delany Arena at the Pickering Rec Complex. After the Buzz visit for a mid-week matchup, West Durham hosts a pair of Ottawa clubs as the Gloucester Griffins and Nepean Knights come to town. The Saturday night game against the Griffins will also be West Durham Minor Lacrosse Night at the PRC. All Rockmen minor lacrosse players are encouraged to come out for a fun night of lacrosse, games, and door prizes. Admission is for all West Durham Minor Lacrosse players that wear their jersey to the game.
