“That's the first time we’ve beat Halton in a few years”

Those were the words of James Christoforatos following the West Durham Ironheads 11-7 win versus the Halton Hills Bulldogs.

Ironheads fell behind one to nothing early but only trailed in the game for a total 16 seconds. Jakson Raposo tied the game and Mark Wilson gave West Durham the lead.

Both teams traded tallies and the Bulldogs added a late goal to tie the game at three going into the second period.

A very quick start with Christoforatos in his first game of the season finding the mesh just 7 seconds into the period. Jack Boyden added another giving the Ironheads a 5-3 lead.

The Bulldogs lived up to their name fighting back and we were tied once again, this time at 5 going to the third period.

The third was all Ironheads, three straight goals including two tallies in a row from Jackson Roposo to give him the Hattrick.

Halton Hills found the mesh but West Durham’s Cameron McGinnis and Jack Boyden responded with back to back goals to push the lead 10 to 6.

Both teams scored again before some scary moments late in the game. Ironheads goalie Tyler Newman took a hard shot to the face and was down for several minutes. He toughed it out and finished the game for the Ironheads third straight victory 11-7.

Newman was asked postgame about what happened, “I took a shot off the face, popped the buckle loose on my helmet, just got a little bit dizzy, got a little bit sick. So I decided to stay down and make sure everything was alright so I could finish the last two minutes of the game.”

Assistant Coach Pat Gregoire was asked about how his team played, “It was a complete team effort. It started from Goaltender Tyler Newman, to our defence, to our transition to our offence. To be quite honest that was one of the best 60 minutes of lacrosse that I’ve seen from the organization, even since I was a player.”

West Durham will be in Brampton Saturday, taking on the Excelsiors.
