2021-2022 Junior Varsity Award Winners:

Most Valuable Player: Max Campo (Middle Country Cougars) Max doubled his point per game total from a year ago and finished the season with 35 points (10 in two playoff games). Campo benefited from incredible teammates in MVP runner-up Mike Taliercio, Shane Kirby and Erik Craft.

Most Valuable Defenseman: Jake Levine (Roslyn Bulldogs) Jake was able to hold it down for a very talented Bulldog team this season. Jake is able to effectively stop his opponents and contribute to the offensive seamlessly. His 20 assists (and 1 goal) were tops in the league.

Most Valuable Goalies: Justin Vishnick and Alex Sadofsky (Roslyn Bulldogs) As if any extra justification was needed for these two goalies sharing the award it was seen during the championship game was Vishnick started the game by only giving up two goals and Sadofsky came in and shut the door in the second half as things got tight. The two won every single game they started after the first game.

Most Improved Player: Mike Taliercio (Middle Country Cougars) Mike has gotten better and better since he joined Islandwide a couple of seasons ago and this year he doubled his points per game total. He was a huge part of his team’s semi-final win over Farmingdale and was also a factor in the championship.

Championship Game MVP: Zach Weinberger (Roslyn Bulldogs) Zach continued his excellent season during the championship taking full advantage of great passing by Jack Meyer by scoring four goals in Roslyns JV title win.

Junior Varsity All-Star Game:

Syosset and Roslyn took on Middle Country and Farmingdale in an exciting feature of the up-and-coming Islandwide talent. Both teams traded goals and saves all game long, but Jake Levine’s several points were the difference maker in the one goal win.

All-Star Game MVP: Jake Levine (Roslyn Bulldogs)

2021-2022 Varsity Award Winners:

Most Valuable Player: Evan Gordon (POB / JFK Hawks) A member of Islandwide for a quite a long time, Evan only got better every year he played in the league. After being a huge part of the 2021 Varsity champion Gordon was the driving force to a very young POB team in 2022. A team that almost pulled off a very impressive first round upset. The senior finished his Islandwide career with 299 points.

Most Valuable Goalie: Anthony Raspantini (Roslyn Bulldogs) A mainstay of the Roslyn net, Anthony was a constant source of dependable goaltending and dedication during his Islandwide tenure. This season he ranked 2nd in GAA (with four more games played) and 1st with an .870%. Roslyn is going to have a big hole to fill in Varsity next season.

Most Valuable Defense: Ryan Standard (East End Warriors) After dominating JV for a year and a half when East End moved to Varsity in January Standard led the way. His ability to stop players and then join and create offensive is extremely impressive. We look forward to seeing him grow as a player.

Most Improved Player: Michael Holding (Farmingdale Dalers) Few players get attention on struggling teams, but Holding has been one of them in at least the last two seasons as his game continues to improve. Playing behind Farmingdale teams that are not known for their scoring Holding gives his team a chance to win on a nightly basis.

Coach of the Year: Justin Corbo: (POB / JFK Hawks) Last season Corbo guided the undefeated Hawks to their first Varsity title, but this season the Hawks seemed destined to struggle near the bottom at the league at the start of the season. However, a blend of senior leadership and a solid underclass spurred an extremely impressive second half of the season that ended a game short in the quarterfinals in overtime. Honorable mention goes to occasional substitute Dave Botkin.

Playoff MVP: Andrew Worst (Islip Buccaneers) A majority of Islip’s offensive came from their defensemen during the regular season, but Andrew was the most consistent offensive threat when in the lineup. In the playoffs he was extremely impressive totally 9 points in the 3 playoff wins.

Varsity All-Star Game Skills Competition:

Fastest Skater: Ryan Standard (East End)

Accuracy Winner: Jack Rhein (East End)

Breakaway Contest (Goalie) - Vinny Nullet (Middle Country)

Breakaway Contest (Skater)  - Jordan Sirota (Roslyn)

Hardest Shot - Matt Brode (Islip)

Varsity All-Star Game: The best that Islandwide has to offer absolutely did not disappoint in this one. After a 14 goal first period saw 10 different goal scorers, the goaltenders stood on their heads in the second period to keep the game close. Tied 11-11 at the end of regulation, Matt Materazo was able to win the game in overtime.

Game MVP: Jordan Sirota (Roslyn)
