ROSE HILL SLUGGERS 14, GREAT BEND 8

 

Week 2 of the Tuesday Sunflower Showcase at Eck got off to an explosive start.

Rose Hill (5-2) bats exploded over the final four innings, scoring 11 runs in its 14-8 win over Great Bend (3-4).

P/C Zach Baxley [SW Oklahoma State] and 1B Garrett Kocis [Wichita State] each had three-hit games and knocked in three runs apiece. Each had an RBI single in the ninth inning to cap off the win.

A one-run deficit turned into a 10-8 Rose Hill lead at the end of the seventh inning. IF Mason Hartman [Pitt State] highlighted the frame with a two-run single.

P/OF Tanner Leslie [Butler CC] threw a scoreless inning in relief and IF/P Jackson Dietel [SW Oklahoma State] got the win after throwing 4.1 innings as its starting pitcher.

OF Brady Michel [Emporia State] and 1B Jake Baker [Kansas] shined for Great Bend, each picking up four-hit nights.

CHENEY DIAMOND DAWGS 4, DERBY TWINS 3

 

Back-to-back nights of Cheney and Derby and back-to-back nights of one-run wins for one of the two undefeated teams in the Sunflower Collegiate League.

IF Jackson Glenn [Dallas Baptist] kicked off extra innings with a triple and DH Davis Simms [Western Kentucky] drove him in with a game-winning sacrifice fly to give Cheney a 4-3 win.

OF Kyler Castillo [New Mexico], who is the reigning SCL MVP, led the Diamond Dawgs with a 3-for-5 night at the plate. Glenn also had a multi-hit night with a 2-for-4 performance at the dish.

RP Jeff Wilson [Louisiana Lafayette] got the win, throwing two shutout innings and striking out four Derby batters.

C Brett McGee [Southern Arkansas] drove in two of Derby’s three runs in the nightcap.
