Diamond Dogs use late sure to win 12-5 over Haysville
Haysville, Kan. -- The Cheney Diamond Dogs snapped a 5-5 gridlock late to pull away for a 12-5 win last night (July 18) over the Haysville Aviators at Plagens-Carpenter Park.
After the Aviators plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score, the Diamond Dogs responded with two runs of their own the very next inning before an RBI single by Cody Moore kickstarted a five-run ninth frame for Cheney that also featured four costly errors by the Aviators.
George Specht tripled and drove in two runs, with Ryan Scott also recording two RBIs for the Diamond Dogs.
Trent Mallonee had a big night at the plate for the Aviators, going 4-of-5 with a pair of RBIs.
Cayden Castellanos went seven innings and surrendered four earned runs and struck out five in a winning effort.
Cheney (33-6) is at the Kansas Cannons tonight, with Haysville (20-15) squaring off with 316 Elite 18U. Both games are slated to begin at 7 pm.
