Facing a late 6-1 deficit, the Cheney Diamond Dogs flexed their muscle and won for the 34th time this season with a 9-6 win over the Kansas Cannons last night (July 19) at Eck Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University.

Gavin Rogers started the surge for the Diamond Dogs with a two-run homer in the seventh. Jaxson Syring then doubled home a run to cut the deficit to 6-4.

The eighth inning is when the Diamond Dogs finished the climb back, as a two-run double by Andrew Brautman tied the score and RBI singles from Fransisco Guevara and Jake Burcham put Cheney on top. Syring then drew a bases-loaded walk to cap the five-run inning.

Jorey Faber pitched two scoreless frames to get the win for the Diamond Dogs, with Alex Epp holding the Cannons off the scoreboard in the ninth inning to pick up the save.

The Diamond Dogs got three hits from Burcham along with two RBIs each from Syring, Epp and Rogers.

Biles and Gump each had a pair of RBIs to lead the Cannons.

Cheney (34-6) is at Haysville tonight (July 20) starting at 7 pm at Plagens-Carpenter Park.
