2019-202 REGULAR SEASON CHAMPS!
9 February 2020: BOWMANVILLE, ON – The regular season championship pennant was on the line this afternoon for both Clarington Eagles (28-9-1-4) and North Kawartha Knights (NKK) (30-11-0-1). Eagles faced off against Lakefield Chiefs (24-13-2-2) while NKK had Little Britain Merchants (21-18-1-2) on their plate. NKK shut out Little Britain, 3-0, but Eagles struggled in their match-up.
Ethan Young (James Allen, Cole Robbins) scored the sole goal of the first period on a power play to put Lakefield in the lead.
Brent Lace scored a hat trick in the second frame: at 3:28 (Connor Davies, Mitchell Doyle), at 9:34 (Ethan Ramsden, Mitchell Doyle) on power play and 19:13 (Connor Davies, Dawson Manning) to put the Eagles up by two.
Lakefield answered back with a goal by William Keith (Jeff Hawthorne, Dawson Turcott) 1:51 into the third. At 15:19 Jacob McPhee (Cole Robbins, John Post) scored from the point on a bounce to tie the game. No scoring in OT so the game ended with a tie, point to each team.
NKK were tied with Eagles in season points but the Eagles had won more games head to head against NKK and that was the tie breaker. The Eagles are 2019-2020 Orr Division Regular Season Champs.
Eagles, NKK and Lakefield have the week off while Uxbridge Bruins and Little Britain play a 3-game qualifier round. The winner will advance to play the Eagles in the Cougar Cup semi-finals. NKK plays Lakefield in the other match-up to determine the Cougar Cup finalists.
