Port Hope rolls over Gananoque, 6-1
The Gananoque Islanders had trouble finding ways to stop the Port Hope Panthers, which beat Islanders, 6-1.
The win by Port Hope clinched the best of seven series at 4-0.
The Panthers were sparked by Jon Campbell, who had one goal. Campbell scored 2:15 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Port Hope. Jack Vautour provided the assist.
Port Hope forced Gananoque's goaltenders to work in net, ripping 43 shots and forcing 37 saves. Quinn Cota made 35 stops and Paul Mazzolin made two. The Panthers stifled the Islanders' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.
Port Hope also got points from Blane Gaudon, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Dalton Lawrence, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Port Hope also had goals scored by Cameron McGill, Shawn Mackie, and Evan Wasylyk, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Port Hope were Dan Lagrois, who had two and Josh Gervais, Austin Jeffers, Evan Foley, Mike Smith, and Matthew Cavanaugh, who contributed one each.
Gananoque was led by Matt Carter, who scored the team's only goal. Carter scored 19:10 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Port Hope.
Aaron Young made 24 saves for Port Hope on 25 shots. The Panthers totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 2-for-9 on the power play. For Port Hope, Tyler Wicks was ejected from the game. The Islanders totaled 43 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and three majors and went 0-for-4 on the power play. Team's Patrick Lyster, Carter, Cota, and Brenden Lochead were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
